Okay, so when I said that we "ditched" the bikes what I really meant was that we locked them securely in a bike rack. And when I said that we never went back to get them I forgot to tell you that the hostel manager would be driving to Brunnby to pick them up later in the day. So, I guess we didn't exactly just "ditch 'em" but I thought it sounded much cooler than the whole truth (sorry Jakenator).
For Uncle Joe:
My observation so far has been that men do in fact cook quite a bit here. Both meals I have had at my visiting family were prepared by the father and the men in my kollegium are much more confidant in the kitchen than I am. Perhaps some of the men in my life (Matthew) should learn from this and work on their cooking skills.
For my Aunt Kathy:
The drift wood sculptures were built illegally because it was done on a nature reserve without government permission. They were supposed to be torn down, but the people protested and now they have become part of the reserve. It is indeed cold here, but I am holding up. By the way, I have many more pictures of Tivoli, castles and such. Let me know what you would like for your classroom and I would be happy to send you some.
Family Visit #2
On Friday night Erin and I went to our visiting family's house again for dinner. It was a fabulous dinner of ham and vegetables cooked by Flemming. It was very nice to have a real meal cooked for us because you can only have pasta and peanut butter sandwiches for dinner so many times each week. After dinner we spent time talking and relaxing together. We also watched a little bit of Denmark's Dancing With the Stars. It was quite funny to watch even though we had no idea what anyone was saying. It did however make me miss watching this show with Mom at home.
Saturday morning we woke up early to have a Danish breakfast with our visiting parents and then the four of us drove into the city for some sight seeing. The daughters did not join us because Mette had to work and Katharine had a badminton match.
The first thing we planned on doing in Copenhagen was get tickets to sit in on a session of The Danish Parliament, but they were closed for the day. So, we went to the Carlsberg Brewery instead. Carlsberg is one of the largest breweries in the world. It was founded in and is currently based in Copenhagen. In addition to supporting various teams and charities, the Carlsberg company has funded the construction of many galleries and museums in Denmark.
Alright, so I know this was not the most exciting blog entry but I have a very busy week ahead of me. I have midterm projects and papers to finish, laundry, packing and preparing for my 3 week break which starts on Friday. I have a lot to do and I hope to be ready to leave for Holland on Sunday.
A note for my followers...
I may be encouraged to post more often if I know that you are actually reading what I write. There are some of you that are kind enough to leave little messages and questions for me, but others who do not (Uncle John). I enjoy sharing my European Adventures with you, but it would be nice to hear from you once in a while as well.

Hi Kel!
Thanks for clarifying the bike thing - Jake.
Nice pictures and "hi" - Rachel.
Was that a SAMPLE of beer???? WOW!! Some sample! I just love that you have a Danish family to connect with....of course, happier still that in a few short days you'll be connecting with some blood relatives :) Study hard, have fun in Holland; I'm hoping to see pics. of some real wooden shoes next week xoxoxox - Auntie Jill
I love your posts.....i am a little kelly-blog-geek and i check for them everyday! sadly, i have more time to check for your writings then you do to write them lol. I like the pictures they are probably my favorite part. See i think we should all go to Denmark now after reading the cool things...like the lego museum and what not lol. Honestly when you said you were going to Denmark i had no idea what you were going to do there or what was there in general so it's great to hear about it all....i also stalk you on face book and love seeing comments from your friends! its fun hearing all your personal tidbits! keep up on your posts they are great. And for a person who, at the moment, has no hopes to travel lol....i love it!
OK Kell I have been a deliquent as far as leaving notes on your blog. I do however visit it religiously everyday. I will become better at leaving you notes. As Auntie Jill said it is really cool that you have found a family to give you that personal touch that you probably would not get otherwise. How was the beer? You never did say if you liked it or not. I am very jealous of my sisters but extremely happy for all of you. I think that will be an experience of a lifetime, traveling the European countryside with your Mom and Auntie. Do you really want Matt to learn how to cook for you? Just an update on the homefront, Maddie was picked to be Student of The Month for September. Well keep having fun!! Let me know where you have had the best beer so far? Talk to you soon
Love Uncle John
Thanks for all the clarification. Sorry to ruin your much cooler story of the bike trip. Your family is a bit stuffy about the rules obviously. Going to the Danish Parliment...hahaha...who was that story meant to impress. Looked like an awesome brewery. I am not much of a beer person either but the ingredients and labels on the bottles would be cool enough for me. What is the drinking age there out of curiosity?
As far as pictures...hmmm. We read Number the Stars by Lois Lowry set on Osterbrogade Street in Copenhagen. They talk of Tivoli Gardens, the harbor where the naval ships were sunk, I always mention the mermaid statue, and they speak of Christian X and his castle where he was imprisoned during occupation. They later travel by train (seeing older castles along the way)to a coastal village and cross (well the Jews do) to Sweden in the bottom of a fisherman's boat. So honestly I think you have covered it all but if you have something else all the better. We also read another holocaust book set in Holland so... just kidding.
Keep studying and having fun. I wish I had gotten an experience like this when I was 20ish...but I was too busy with dumb boys...oops don't tell Uncle Barry that's when I met him. He was smarter, he made it to Germany and that area before he met me:). I'll get there yet. Aunt Kath
"Polar Beer"??
Polar Bear??
In Antarctica it would have to be "Penguin Beer"
I like beer.
I like factory tours.
I want to go to Denmark.
Love,
Dad
Beer for BREAKFAST ? SAMPLE ? The wineries sure don't give samples like that! I know that the parent handbook suggests that we should be prepared for all sorts of changes when you come home and that "rentry" is a problem for some students. I've completed my parental responsibilities and read (highlighted and outlined) the parent handbook for students studying abroad, but it didn't say anything about beer for breakfast. Did you remove that chapter? Are you going to expect Auntie and I to share in this habit?
Love
Mom
Hey, I don't mind preparing food. Its just that "cooking" part of it that's the problem. Make you a deal: I'll prepare it, you cook it.
Oh yeah...I like beer too! But I bet you miss Chateau LaFayette Reneau Johannesburg Riesling. Muahhahaha.
-Big Brother!
Hi Kelly,
I have been vicariously living your blog through Uncle JOhn, who I thought was replying after he read each day, I guess I was wrong. Just swamped with the kids and work. This is the forst night since school started that I have taken a cut to write to you. I did check my work email but it is all about the controversy over our Dancing with the Stars pool. Glad to read things are going well and your visits with the famiy are really neat and an authentic experience. Also glad you put my nephew in his place. Uncle John is watching the debate, not my thing when I have Lipstick Jungles and other shows to catch up on. I am sure you wil enjoy Holland. Wish I could say I could use some pics in my classroom but the poor dears did not know you could drive to Canada or that we live 45 minutes from Maine. I think I need to stci to N. America and the North East for awhile! Well I guess that is it for now, sorry I have no deep questions.
Love,me the girlies and uncle Johnny
Thank you for responding. I just returned from Manchester NH tongight and saw your posting about your trip to the Carlberg Brewery. I had forgotten about that beer. I had Carlsberg Elelphant beer once when I was in college. Strong stuff as I recall. Did you happen to try that one as one of your 2 selections? I wish I was able to go with your aunt and mom next week too! I have to stay home and hold down the fort. Plus, it's very busy at work. We can chat now though, now that we have skype. Take Care! Uncle Joe
